I’ve been having a fair amount of trouble with the Movable Type based blog here at Cybergooch.com. I’ve received emails from people that tried leaving responses and weren’t able to, and frankly, I’ve never been crazy about the process of posting in Movable Type anyway.
I am hereby recreating the blog using Wordpress, which is what I’ve been using for my personal blog over at ericgooch.com. I’ve been pretty happy with Wordpress, and it seems to keep getting better.
So let me know if you have any problems leaving replies or if you see stuff not working like it’s supposed to.
Thanks!

Got this monitor about a week ago, and it’s pretty sweet.
Still messing around with resolutions and such, but it’s great working with 3D programs and Photoshop and having all that space.
And of course games look awesome!

Finished a new piece that was inspired by two events…first off, my wife got the Jeep stuck in the snow just before she made it back to the driveway of our house, and as we grabbed shovels to dig it out, the headlights gave off a surreal glow in the snow and wind. Not too long after that, my son was at Boy Scouts where they were using snowmobiles to carry equipment back and forth. I got a good look at the workings of the snowmobiles and decided to turn that into a vehicle.

Check it out here.

Well I know it’s hard to believe, but I finished a new image! This one is called “Angel of Death” and it’s been an idea that’s been kicking around inside my head for a while now. I started on it a couple months back, but I’ve only worked on it a bit here and there, which is why it took so long to finish. You can see it here.

Added an article about some of the lighting I did for the Playstaion 3 game “Resistance: Fall of Man” by Insomniac Games, that shipped late last year.
Included are a number of images showing various game levels before being lit, and after. I think it shows what a big difference lighting makes, and how it affects the mood of the areas.
Hopefully it will be of interest if you’re curious about some of the goings-on at a game company, and how the visuals progress from concept art to the final level.
It’s in the tutorial section here.

I shot a few sky and mountain time-lapse photography sequences for fun not too long ago around my house. I’ve put up a few sample movies and some info on what’s needed to create these if it’s something you might be interested in.
Check it out here.

I added a tutorials link to the front page (refresh the home page if you can’t see the link.)
I’ve got the Cinema 4D procedural noise examples, and a couple of hardware tutorials. One is a really easy one on how to turn an internal drive into an external drive using a drive enclosure, and the other is on how to build your own computer.
I just finished building a new 64-bit system, and thought I’d take a bunch of photos as I went. Hope someone finds it useful!
Maybe now that I’ve built a new system, I’ll get off my butt and make some more art!

Well I’ve been WAY too busy at work to spend any time on any new images of my own for a while. We’re in crunch mode now on Resistance:Fall of Man and it’s been long hours, but I’m happy with how the game is looking.
I did manage to make it to the L.A. zoo one Saturday to get some more photos. I bought the Sigma 50-500 tele zoom not long ago and wanted to try it out…it’s pretty sweet. A 500mm lens is like shooting through a freakin’ telescope.
Check the photos out here.

Well I finally got off my ass and finished another image! “The Shadow Hill Imps” is a fantasy piece that was based on a photo I took while at Redwood National Park. I saw this cool looking root sticking out of the ground, with a dark area beneath it that almost looked like a cave.
I took a couple shots of it, and used it in this images as the background. The imps were modelled and rendered in Cinema 4D, and everything was composited in Photoshop.
Added to the Fantasy gallery. It was a fun piece to do. Hope you enjoy it!

Okay, the guestbook and the photography gallery are working again, so I think I’ve succesfully migrated everything to the new webhost. I lost the old guestbook entries though ( a shame, as I had entries from all over the world) so if you’ve signed it in the past, please sign in again.
I’m adding the photo galleries back in a couple at atime, and hopefully will have some new stuff in the not too distant future as well.
